The USPTO updates refusal of Sony’s ‘Let’s Play’ trademark application

They discovered what Let’s Plays are A few weeks ago,Sony tried to trademark the phrase ‘Let’s Play’. Seeing as it’s a ubiquitous term for commentated gameplay that’s been used since the Something Awful forums coined it back in 2007, it’s no surprise that the US Patents and Trademarks Office shot it down. What was interesting was the USPTO’s justification for doing so. It didn’t originally deny the application because of it being a well-known and widely used term, like you’d have expected them to....

The world is in need of a new platform mascot

But what animals are left to fill the role? Sonic. Conker. Aero. Gex. Jim. Banjo. Crash. Bubsy. Sparkster. Rocky. Awesome. Going into a game store in the 90s was like going into a zoo where the staff forced animals to go on wild and amazing adventures. Coming of age in the decade was perfect for a platformer fan like myself as there was never a shortage of new 2D and 3D adventures starring whatever animal developers thought would appeal to us Sunkist-drinking, Fruit by the Foot-eating miscreants....

Turns out blacksmithing is tougher than in Skyrim

Who’d have ever guessed? I don’t think that anyone really thought thatSkyrimprovided an accurate depiction of a blacksmith’s trade. I mean, those dudes have to hit stuff for a really long time. It looks too tedious to be fun. Unless they have a power hammer, which is an incredibly cool tool. I think I’m going to unnecessarily add it to my Amazon wishlist. Impressively (and through the magic of the power hammer), this real life blacksmith makes a piece of armor and a dagger out of some soda cans and leather strips....

Windows 11 24H2 is having performance issues on select CPUs, again

Windows sucks. I feel that this is not an awfully controversial statement in this day and age at all. It’s just that every other desktop operating system sucks at least a tiny bit more than Windows does. Yet, Windows 11’s latest 24H2 update is particularly problematic on Intel CPUs. I’m not sure what it is about Windows 11 24H2 that makes it such a performance hog, but boy howdy does itloveeating up unnecessary CPU cycles whenever it feels like doing so....
