RetroforceGO! Episode 42: Easter Eggs!

Hooray! Another year, another chance to celebrate the Raptor Jesus. It was a pretty good Easter, the Marshmallow Peeps did not end up getting Topher. He was rescued at the last minute by a shark named CTZ, who was also riding on top of an elephant when doing the saving. It was pretty epic, I swear. Another thing that was epic was recording on Saturday instead of Sunday. The epic-ness would have been thrice fold had I finished the show and made it ready for Easter consumption, but there was a whole bunch of things that got in the way of that happening, and instead of the usual highlights I’ll list the those things in no particular order instead....

Some Steins;Gate games have been added to Xbox One backward compatibility

I think I’m turning Japanese! Microsoft had made a big push to get into the Japanese market with the launch of the Xbox 360, but that ended up backfiring and led to Microsoft embracing more Western properties. That is a real shame, too, since we got the classicLost Odysseyand some pretty oft-kilter releases from Cave (Deathsmiles,DoDanPachi, etc). Now, you’re able to relive some of the crazy part of Microsoft’s history on Xbox One....

Square Enix is making another neat mobile game called Dramatic RPG Kamitsuri

I dig the music Square Enix has been branching out in the mobile arena for quite a while now. While I can’t say that I like their strategy of re-releasing ports of old games for $15 to $20, I do enjoy their completely original works at a lower pricepoint. And it looks likeDramatic RPG Kamitsuri, a puzzle game announced for Android and iOS, might fit that bill. Since I can already hear the collective groaning now, can I just say I love the music and the art?...

The Japanese government squashes social gaming’s dreams

Usually I have the pleasure of reporting the latest fun and silly stuff coming from my homeland of Japan to our readers. Today I get to tell you about something so ridiculously dumb my head is actually hurting. Do you like buying in game items with real cash? I don’t either, but I sure am glad I have the option to. The Japanese Consumer Affairs Agency has been fielding complaints about children spending high amounts on Yen on various social media game in app items....

The Metroid Retrospective Pt. 2: Reminisce Harder

You know what? I was supposed to have this article up earlier today. It’s been a couple of days since Gametrailers released part two of their Metroid retrospective series, and I’ve been slacking. The reason for this is simple: After watching the retrospective, I felt compelled to play a littleSuperMetroid, I figured a few minutes of playtime would be a good way to freshen up my memories. That was several hours ago.By watching the video, you can see that Gametrailers does an amazing job of pointing out how well the third installment to the Metroid universe had taken everything good about the previous two Metroids, mixed it all together, and then cranked the series up to 11 for the SNES version....

There are 65 million active Steam users up there

Valve announces a 30 percent increase in the last 12 months Hot on the heels of announcements for theSteam OSand its push into the living room, Valve has announced that there are now 65 million active Steam users. That’s an increase of 30 percent over the last 12 months, which is quite a feat. How Valve actually measures “active users” would be useful to know; is a user active by simply being signed into Steam or something a bit more tangible like purchasing and playing games?...

Ubisoft attempts to shuffle chairs as Vivendi looms for a takeover

Gameloft down, Ubisoft to go Ubisoft has announced today that two independent directors have been nominated as board members for the company, for approval in September. The individuals are Frédérique Dame and Florence Naviner, the former of which was previously at Uber — the latter was at Wrigley (yes, the candy company). As Game Informerastutely points out, this is a strategy to assist in blocking Vivendi from a hostile takeover. Again, the move isn’t approved just yet, but the company is clearly aiming to usher them in as soon as possible....

Want a R.O.B. for your PS3? Sony’s thought about it

R.O.B. the Robotseems to hold a fond spot in the memories of most gamers even though it was far from being ideal when it came to actual functionality (probably due to the fact he was so darn cute). That being said, I think at least a few gamers have considered how cool it might be to have an accessory like this that really works. Sony’s thought about it too, if the patent filed by them in June of last year is any indication....

Warframe heading to Xbox One this year

Go ninja go! Digital Extremes’ free-to-play shooterWarframehas done well for itself on PC and PlayStation 4. It’ll probably do well on Xbox One too, which is where it’scoming next, sometime this year. Although, fact of the matter is it’s not truly “free” because of that pesky Xbox Live Gold requirement, unless Microsoft waives it beforeWarframereleases. (Which it conceivably could and should.) This version will support second-screen functionality through SmartGlass and the Warframe Nexus App for Windows Phone, iOS, and Android....
