Dev was told off at Lionhead for too much fan interaction

Gratuitous Space Battles dev recounts ‘talking to the community too much’ In our interview with Cliff Harris, the independent designer ofGratuitous Space Battles,he spoke aboutwhat it’s like to communicate with an active fan base directly as a developer, something that can be taken for granted when working at a bigger studio. Eat away your sorrows with this Rhythm Tengoku trailer

;_; Sometimes life gets you down, and all you want to do is sit on the couch while eating peanut butter with a spoon and watching Netflix. Or if you are “Heartbreak Bear Hen” (as translated by Google), you would rhythmically alternate between donuts and slices of strawberry cake, conveniently sold in large grocery bags I’m going to call “sad sacks.” The sad bear eating to feel better is just one of many games in the upcoming compilationRhythm Tengoku: The Best+for the 3DS (a series better known asRhythm Heavenoutside of Japan)....

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture’s soundtrack is being released on vinyl

I’m in love. This is what love is Plenty of people didn’t for various reasons, but I absolutely loved pretty much every second of The Chinese Room’sEverybody’s Gone to the Rapture. One of the key things that made my time with that game so enjoyable was Jessica Curry’s fantastic soundtrack. Thanks to the announcement thatMusic on Vinylis giving it a vinyl release, I’m seriously considering getting a decent record player just so I can be a right proper littler hipster audiophile while listening to it....

Far Cry 4 villain wears that suit as an homage to his mother

So like a Norman Bates thing? Ubisoft released an interview withFar Cry 4executive producer Dan Hay that tip-toes around the relationship between the game’sstriking villain, Pagan Min, and its returned-home-to-spread-his-mother’s-ashesprotagonist,Ajay Ghale. Lots of maternal stuff going on here. Can’t wait for some psychoanalysis.

Forza Motorsport 5: Finally, some real quality time

More than just a few laps Forza Motorsport 5has been on my Xbox One launch list since its announcement; I knew this was a game I had to have from the beginning. I’ve played it several times over the past years at trade shows and other events, but every instance was little more than a few laps around a course. Honestly, outside of showing off the fancy new visual muscle and some of the new Xbox One controller perks, none of these showings did the game any justice....

Has Microsoft killed Kinect?

Kinda. Maybe. Possibly? Talking of backwards compatibility… did you notice whatwasn’ton that list of playable titles? Kinect games. There are no Kinect games. NoKinectimals, noKinect Sport, noDance Central. It seems that Xbox’s all-singing, all-dancing motion/voice control system Kinect – once Microsoft’s poster child – has been unceremoniously dumped in a corner. Sniff. Apparently, it’s not intentional. As the Xbox One will essentially be simulating an Xbox 360, it’s unable to take account of peripherals added by way of a USB port....

Irrational reveals four features cut from BioShock

Irrational Gamesis continuing to tickle us with little knowledge drops — this time via an editorial titled“Five Cut Features,”which deals with, largely, features that were cut from Irrational’s dystopian FPS BioShock. Which one grabs us the most? The navigation robot. As explained in the article by technical director Chris Kline, “We wanted a map, but were concerned that this would take too much programming and design/art time to implement. So I came up with the idea of Nav-Bot: You could press a controller button to summon your Nav-Bot, activate him with another controller button, and then select from a list of destinations in a 2D user interface....

Lots of games are morally bankrupt, we get it

Now move on, already WithHotline Miami 2recently released, I realized I am really, really tired of games that belong in its genre. When I say “genre,” I refer not to “action games” or “indie games” or even “violent games,” but a subtler, more hypocritical classification: I’m referring to videogames that criticize violent videogames and their fans, whilestill being violent videogames. Hotline Miami.Far Cry 3. Games that turn a mirror on the player and say, “look at you!...

Maxis announces The Sims 4 for 2014

Yes, it’s playable offline In a short, rather bland announcement, Maxishas announcedits next project:The Sims 4. It’s due out on Windows and Mac next year, and that’s about all we know at this time. I mean, it isThe Sims— not like folks need much of anything to go on at this point. You will simulate your friends, let them die in cruel ways, and then Maxis will put out a bunch of expansions for years to come....

Need something free to pass the time? 0h h1 is sort of like binary sudoku

Red vs. blue I have always been an unapologetic fan ofMinesweeper. I have been playing it for longer than any other single game, and I will be playing it as long as I can imagine. It never changes in any fundamental way, but it always works to pass some time when I just want to switch my brain into pure logic mode.0h h1is the same kind of thing; it could be solved by a pretty simple computer program, but the act of going through it is still mechanically satisfying....
