To catch you up to speed, because — let’s face it — most of you aren’t deeply invested inBattlefield Heroes, the free-to-play online game allows players to earn points with which to buy in-game items by either whipping out their wallets, or by simply playing through matches.
Problem is, anew pricing modelhas been implemented. A very costly one at that. As reported byArs Technica, it’s now significantly more expensive to purchase guns/clothes/whatever by earning your points. Furthermore, all of these items are now cheaper when paid for with real money.
This move has rightfully pissed off a bunch of dedicatedBattlefield Heroesplayers, because now the only way to stand a chance equipment-wise is to spend an ungodly amount of time playing. Or pulling out that credit card. Obviously, for a game of this nature, it throws off the balance. Never a good sign for a multiplayer shooter.
It shall be very interesting to see if (presumably) causing so many regular players to leave for good was worth picking up an extra few bucks here and there from the people willing to put up the cash to stay competitive.
Who knows, maybe the game wasn’t profitable enough and there was no “good” alternative.
