Rare’sPerfect Darkis a spiritual successor toGoldenEye 007, one of the most influential shooters of the Nintendo 64 era. If you’ve never played the original capers of special agent Joanna Dark, you may now check it out on PC.

Although it’s an unofficial port, GitHub userfgsfdshas madePerfect Darkplayable on PC, which not only brings the classic 2000 game back from the dead, but adds extra features. For example, mouselook, widescreen support, FOV, and more have been implemented.

The download page notes the game is “in a mostly functional state.” Indeed, a report fromDSO Gamingsays the port does have some bugs, “but not any game-breaking issues.” The only thing you may need to consider is that it’s only available on 32-bit operating systems.

When Rare games weren’t so rare

Perfect Darkrepresents a grander time for developer Rare. Hot off the immense success ofGoldenEyeon the N64, the relatively small British studio was the darlings of a bygone Nintendo era.

The team is responsible for some of the most memorable games of the 90s. Setting standards with the release ofDonkey Kong Countryon the SNES, Rare consistently knocked it out of the park for years to come. Just ask anyone who remembersBanjo-Kazooie,Conker’s Bad Fur Day, orKiller Instinct.

As forPerfect Darkitself, the series has struggled to make much impact in more modern times. While there is areboot in development, conflicts mean we might not see it for a good few years.
