‘We build a world purely for the purpose of making more than one game’

As a single-player only, narrative-driven game,The Order: 1886feels a tad quaint (in a good way), as even the most classically cinematic, narrative-driven things of recent years (Last of Us,Uncharted,Mass Effect) affix multiplayer modes (but do a better job than when everyone was slapping on bland multiplayer).

That does mean it needs legs, though. Talking toPolygon, Ready at Dawn CEO andThe Ordercreative director Ru Weerasuriya talked a lot about waiting for a console as powerful as the PS4 to run newly-made, real-time-physics-full Ready at Dawn Engine 4.0. A lot of work.

In fact, “It takes too much work for this to be for a single title,” Weerasuriya explained.

“We have other games in mind, other things that could be done,” he said. “The reality is that we never build a world with the mind set of ‘There is one story and that is that.’  We build a world purely for the purpose of making more than one game.”
