UK sales data has revealedHelldivers 2is the best-selling game in the country for the second month in a row, outperforming all of March’s new releases.
Helldivers 2launched on February 8 for PC and PlayStation 5, and has maintained popularity since then, with many players regularly jumping on to help complete missions in itsever-changing Galactic War mode. While the data from GSD (as shared byGamesIndustry.biz) doesn’t include exact figures, it does listHelldivers 2at the top of the March sales chart, while the month’s most prominent new release—Dragon’s Dogma 2—came third. Second place, meanwhile, went toEA Sports FC 24, which launched in September 2023. Considering the UK loves its football, it’s extra impressive thatHelldivers 2is still in the top spot.
Not only that, but when compared to howMarvel’s Spider-Man 2sold during its first eight weeks,Helldivers 2is apparently selling better within the same length of time despite the former starring one of the most popular superheroes in the world. That said, these are two very different games;Spider-Man 2is a single-player experience, whereasHelldivers 2is primarily a multiplayer title. Plus,Helldivers 2benefits from being much cheaper, costing $39.99 (£34.99 in the UK), whileSpider-Man 2costs $70/£70.
Regardless, this is a significant achievement forHelldivers 2and developer Arrowhead Game Studios, and it’ll be interesting to see how much longer it maintains this momentum. This past weekend, playerssuccessfully eradicated one of the game’s enemy factions, which should invite some interesting changes in the future. There are suspicions anew enemy faction called the Illuminatewill arrive at some point, so if Arrowhead can keepHelldivers 2feeling fresh on a frequent basis with major updates like new enemies, it can not only maintain its current playerbase but also keep attracting new fans.
As for March’s other new releases,Rise of the RoninandPrincess Peach: Showtime(both of which launched the same day asDragon’s Dogma 2) have failed to crack into the top 20, coming in at number 21 and number 30 respectively. Meanwhile,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth(which is included in the March data despite releasing on February 29), is listed at number five below its RPG rivalDragon’s Dogma 2, whereasWWE 2K24has taken a respectable fourth place.
