The lightbulb-screwing adage is ridiculously old, but it’s too hard to resist the temptation to give it aBioShocktwist when the opportunity presents itself. Let’s try it:

How many continents does it take to create aBioShock 2? The answer is three.Wow.

“We have a lot of help from a lot of different people,” BioShock 2 developer Hogarth de la Plante said during the roundtable discussion that took place after our recent demo of the game. “We got people in our Australian office helping — even on the production level with building levels and stuff right now. As far as the work load split between platforms — I mean, yeah, — I think we’re on three continents right now with people working on the game in one way or another.”

This isn’t exactly unusual behavior. The PlayStation 3 version of the game was developed in much the same manner. However, it seems that this time all versions of the game are going through the same process.

“Some of that [work] is engineering workload for one platform or another, but it’s just kind of all mixed up in there,” de le Plante continued. “There’s a lot of people working on it.”

All early signs indicate that the title isn’t suffering as a result of the scattered intercontinental approach. It’s an interesting method, for sure. We’re not so silently wondering if Australia, since the local 2K branch has a hand inBioShock 2, will actually get the game within a reasonable time frame. Crazier things have happened.
