I was lucky enough to catch up with James Swirkski and Lisanne Pajot, the directors ofIndie Game: The Movie, at a recent screening of their film. For reasons that will make themselves clear in the video, I didn’t want to interview them that night. In the end, I was glad that I did.

Lisanne and James were open and honest about their experience with bringing to film to fruition from its humble beginnings as a Kickstarter project, how they’re staffing the tour almost single-handedly, the potential for the film to see wide release (coming to a city near you on May 18th!), plans for a DVD release, their thoughts on the whole Phil Fish media explosion from a few weeks back, and a lot more.

If video watching isn’t you thing, I encourage you to keep a close eye on the officialIndie Game: The Moviewebsite, as that’s the best place to find your next chance to see this amazing film. I went into it expecting a lot, but I didn’t think I’d see members of the audience moved to tears. However, that’s exactly what happened. The amount of empathy that Lisanne and James felt for their subject matter, and were able to then instill in the audience, was nothing short of astounding.

Thanks again to James and Lisanne for taking the time for this interview, and double thanks to Lisanne for appearing in the latest episode ofTalking to Women about Videogames. You’ve set the new standard. Now it’s up to the rest of us in the gaming press to attempt to keep up.
