How original?

I firstwrote aboutP.A.M.E.L.A.when it was a Steam Greenlight hopeful and was pretty bummed to find out it was going to have survival elements. At the time, it was not clear just how deep those survival elements would run, but this new trailer and its description illuminate some things.

Explore and survive in a Utopian future, ravaged by humanity’s misguided pursuit of perfection. With the help of an enigmatic ally, scavenge, discover and fight for your life on Eden, a floating monolith of a dead civilization.

If you are like me, you play video games to escape the real world and actual survival, but if you aren’t, I bet you’re excited. Survival games are all the rage these days with titles likeDay-Z,H1Z1,Rust, andArk: Survival Evolvedbeing quite popular, but this may be the first one in this kind of futuristic setting. Plus it helps that this isn’t multiplayer.

Personally, scavenging for food and crafting have always felt like filler content to me to stretch out the length of games. I would rather just pick up a new gun or a health pack and be on my way. I’ll still probably giveP.A.M.E.L.A.a spin when it releases on PC later this year; the cyborgs in the future setting looks awesome, plus the hologram shield is sexy. I’m just not sold on the combat or the survival elements.
