PS4 outsold Xbox Series X/S in Japan last year, Switch was the top console

The Switch sold 5.3 million units in Japan alone TheNintendo Switchis riding high. As of September 2021 Nintendo reported that it had sold nearly 93 million units worldwide: so it’s only a matter of time until we get the official notice that it cracks 100 million. At that point it only needs to beat 102 million to take the fifth overall all-time-selling system spot, right below the PS4’s 116.6 million. After that, it has a hill to climb to the PS2’s estimated 155 million worldwide: a number no one may reach again....

Rumortoid: Bahamut Lagoon remake in the works

Proceed with caution. I know how easy it is to get your hopes up. I’m still bitter for having to play a fan translation of this title. The Squre Super Famicom we-wouldn’t-know-it-was-a-classic RPG Bahamut Lagoon never came to the US. This beautiful strategy game caused quite a stir in Japan, but this was back in a time before Square knew how to print money. Maybe they’ve come to their senses?...

So random! Jason Priestley hosts Mario Kart Wii launch

Jason Priestley, star of the popular TV dramaBeverly Hills 90210, will host the launch party at the Nintendo World store in Rockefeller Plaza. Sony’s new PlayStation 404 page is cute

Press X to Nate Brands often poke fun at themselves to a fault or overly weaponize memes, but this one is too cute not to share. For the longest time Sony had aMetal Gear Solid404 page that simply read “Snaaaaaaaaaake, Sorry it looks like game over for the page you are looking for. Try using the navigation or search by keyword above.” It’s still there, but the platform holder also managed to pepper in anUnchartedone too with “Naaaaate,” in the hot seat....

The best Ash Ketchum fan art on the first page of Google

With Safe Search on, no less I was writing a story about a weird Ketchum and, of course, the internet out-weirded it with ease. It was a well-meaning Google Image Search. Safe Search is even on, filtering explicit results. Just “ash ketchum.” Not “ash ketchum fan art.” Not “sexy ash ketchum.” Not “ash ketchum bible verses.” Then sorted by images at least 1,000 pixels in width, which might be Nintendo/The Pokemon Company’s problem: too few Ash images at high res to bump down the drums of fan art....

The PlayStation 4 outsold the Wii U in 48 hours in the UK

Wow, Sony! I really enjoy my Wii U. At this point it has a solid library of titles to choose from, and I tend to play it rather consistently — I also would consider the GamePad to be my favorite control method out of all the current options. But every so often, I’m reminded at just how poorly the console is doing worldwide, and the latest wake-up call is a recent UK sales comparison....

A few hours ago, a very excited Markus “Notch” PerssontweetedthatMinecraftdeveloper Mojang and Bethesda have settled their “Scrolls” dispute. As you might recall, Bethesda filed alawsuitlast year over a possible infringement on “The Elder Scrolls” trademark by Mojang’s upcomingScrolls. Mojang won aninterim injunction, but now it’s 100% free to keep using the “Scrolls” name. As part of thesettlement, Mojang can never actually trademark the word “Scrolls” or make anElder Scrollscompetitor that contains the word “Scrolls” in the title....

What’s new with Guild Wars 2?

At PAX, I got the opportunity to spend some time with the developers ofGuild Wars 2, a game I’ve been looking forward to for quite a while. The build I saw last weekend was a bit different from what was shown last year — the core game is the same, but the skills and some of the combat systems have seen changes. I also got a chance to see one of the maps for the Competitive PvP mode, and got more information on exactly how that mode is going to work....
