Why did I say “tidbits” in the headline? I hate that word. It reminds me of canned fruit, and not news items.

There’s not going to be backwards compatibility in the newer PS3s. Never. Rumors pop up, then die, and then come back. A site calledKoalitionput it all to rest with word from Sony:

When we removed backwards compatibility from PS3, we said that it would not be coming back as our priority was to make great next generation games.  I am not sure where you are getting your information from, but at no point did we say that there would be some sort of emulation being brought to PS3.  At no point has this strategy changed and therefore I can tell you that there are no plans to bring back backwards compatibility to PS3.

Face. I like how it sounds angry. And who doesn’t have a PS2? You know, I have a 60GB PS3, but directly under it are my PS1 and PS2. They actually do the job better than the PS3 does anyway, especially at games that require precise timing.

And, if you’re looking for a PS3 anyway, despite not having backwards compatibility, you’ll be pleased to know thatAmazon is running a sale, taking $50 of the 80GB model. That’s $349. Not bad!
