Watch us wreck the mic… psych

Colourful footage has surfaced for incoming brawlerRiver City Girls, currently in development atShantae-helmers WayForward. The gameplay video appeared as part of a live stream held by fighting game gods Arc System Works, who are also involved in the game’s production.

The gameplay (which starts at 16:20 in the video below) shows off some ofRiver City Girlsearly stages, along with the manga and anime cinematics used to depict the narrative. In the footage, we see ass-kicking heroes Kyoko and Misako make their way through a particularly tough day at school, beginning with a classroom dust-up, before throwing fists and feet in the corridors, cafeteria and gym of their hallowed place of learning.

The clip showcases the title’s great-looking pixel animation and retro-inspired soundtrack. Amusing touches include Kyoko stomping a downed Misako back to her feet, and some creepily upbeat cheerleaders. Mechanically, the game’s overall pace recalls that of Ubisoft’s 2010 releaseScott Pilgrim vs. The World, with cool combat mechanics (note Kyoko’s off-the-wall jump at 25:45). Things are looking good so far.

River City Girlslaunches on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch September 5.
