Now you too can ‘buy’ Star Trek Online’s free expansion

We’re just about a month out untilStar Trek Onlinegets a bunch of funny-foreheaded Vulcans stuffed into itfor itsLegacy of Romulusexpansion, which is set to debut a whole new faction to step into the 25th century. Thankfully for penny-pinching players, the expansion will be like the game itself – free-to-play. But don’t let that fact stop the spend-happy, as Cryptic’s dropped the cloakon a pair of optional “Legacy Packs”folks can choose to purchase ahead of launch (like “Founder’s Packs” in some other games).

The cheaper “Starter Pack” goes for $19.99 and contains a Liberated Borg Reman Bridge Officer, a pair of Warbird ships, and a title, which would total about $31 worth separately. The real torpedo up the wormhole, though, is the Legacy Pack, which contains a whoppingninepremium Warbirds (including the famous D’deridex and Mogai classes), three titles, an exclusive costume, a bunch of in-game items, and unlocks the Reman playable race option. In case you were wondering, Remans are freaky psychic space-Nosferatuthat figured prominently inStar Trek: Nemesis, the last film before J.J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot. Unfortunately, the price of the Legacy Pack might just curl your Jeffries tubes: $124.99.
