Since the induction of ESRB ratings in 1994, noSuper Marioseries title has ever received a rating higher than E.Yoshi’s IslandandSuper Mario 64used the old “Kids to Adults” which has since been replaced by the E for everyone rating. EveryMarioentry since has understandably received this E rating. However,Super Mario Odysseyhas been given a rating of E10+, for everyone ages ten and up.
The E10+ rating is described by the ESRB as containing“cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language and/or minimal suggestive themes.” Perhaps bouncing on relatively realistic humans heads, forced marriage, and dinosaurpossessioncapture have played a role. I doubt the Sombrero-and-Poncho-wearing Mario will down a tequila.
