Guillermo del Toro’s association had me curious aboutinSANE, but it’s not exactly like we had much to go on about the game in the first place. Sadly, we may never. Speaking to investors, THQ CEO Jason Rubin disclosed that they “have decided not to pursue further pre-production oninSANE, and have returned all of our IP rights to Guillermo del Toro.”
Truth be told, when a project like this is announced as the beginning of a trilogy, it’s hard not to become at least slightly concerned; all of the chatter about transmedia initiatives certainly didn’t help ease my mind, either. Joystiq reached out to THQ and was told “no teams/staff are affected by this decision.”
Of course, it’s still possible that del Toro could do something with the IP rights ofinSANE. Perhaps another publisher will step in, though I won’t be holding my breath. Games of this nature tend to cost a lot of money, and we all know that new IPs can be an especially risky prospect.
