WithGTA 6set for a Fall 2025 release and Rockstar remaining completely silent since dropping the first trailer in December 2023, fans continue to speculate wildly about what the game will look like.
From debates overhow muchGTA 6will cost, whetherits lighting will look like GTA 5 Enhanced, andif preorders can be trusted, one recurring discussion in the community is how the game will begin.

One theory that keeps resurfacing is that theGTA 6map will be restricted at the start of the story, forcing players to progress through the opening chapter to unlock the full world. This speculation comes from a small detail in the promotional images released so far.
GTA 6 fans think the game might start in prison or right after Lucia gets out
In one of the promotional images, Lucia, one of the main characters, is wearing an ankle monitor. That likely means she’s still being watched by the police even though she’s no longer in prison.
Because of this, some players believeGTA 6could start with Lucia either still in prison, getting released, or just out but unable to move freely because of the monitor.

This would make a lot of sense for the story, based on what we’ve seen inthe firstGTA 6trailerand images. But at the same time, it might annoy players who just want to jump in and explore the world right away. And if we look at how Rockstar has handled this kind of thing before, there’s a chance it won’t go over well with everyone.
Red Dead Redemption 2starts with a pretty restricted first chapter, mainly to teach players the game’s mechanics. While that makes sense for new players, many people found it slow and frustrating over time. In fact, experienced players keep an extra save file right at the start of Chapter 2, just so they never have to go through that intro again.

Even people who loveRed Dead Redemption 2still complain about how long the opening takes.IfGTA 6does something similar, most players might not mind initiallyamid all the hype. But later on, having a slow start with restrictions could end up being one of the things people don’t like about the game.
For now, nothing is confirmed. Rockstar hasn’t released aGTA 6trailer two, and all we know for sure is thatGTA 6is coming in Fall 2025for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Everything else is just theories and wishful thinking.
