Is it worth the upgrade?

The special edition ofIndie Game: The Moviecame out this week. A follow-up to the documentary about the work that went intoFez,Braid, andSuper Meat Boy, this package includes over 100 minutes of additional footage in the form of epilogues and other one-off videos. Digitally, it’s 14.99, or $4.99 to upgrade if you’re an existing customer.

The new footage covers Phil Fish andhis infamous commentabout modern Japanese game design, what Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes have come to learn about the Internet, a behind-the-scenes look at the art ofBraidwith David Hellman, an explanation ofSpelunky‘s procedurally-generated levels, and more. In short, it’s a bunch of smaller pieces that go beyond the movie’s core cast while also giving closure for that group. Spoiler: things turned out okay.

If you’ve not yet seen the documentary itself, I’d say that’s definitely worth the purchase — or at least the time investment required, if you have a Netflix account. As for the special edition, at five bucks, I’m happy with the purchase. But then again, I lovedIndie Game. Personally, this was money well spent for the new Team Meat commentary alone. Yes, there’s another one!
